The GOP looks a whole
lott like Keystone Cops with their latest gaff. Frist and Hastert signed a letter asking for an investigation into who leaked the information about the 'black sites' to the Washington Post last week. It turns out that a
lott of republican lawmakers were informed of the CIA secret prisons in Europe in a GOP only meeting with Dick Cheney. Yesterday Trent Lott stated that he thinks it was one of those Republicans who leaked the story to the Post. The Mahablog has a post titled 'Trent's Revenge' in which it is speculated that Lott may be getting a little sweet revenge on Frist by devulging that it was a Republican who leaked the info when Frist was instigating the investigation in hopes of catching a Democrat. It sure is interesting to see the GOP self-destructing with one disaster after the next with not a single Democrat to blame in sight. Couldn't happen to a better bunch and if the wheels keep coming off at this pace, they will make the Keystone Cops... Proud.

Trent's Revenge
You probably know that
Trent Lott lost his chance to be Senate Majority Leader because of remarks he made at at Strom Thurmond's 100th birthday party. It is widely believed that it was the White House, not nasty Democrats, who took away Trent Lott's leadership position, because the Bushies wanted the more ideological Bill Frist instead of Lott. True or not, in his new book, Herding Cats: A Life in Politics, Lott says he felt betrayed by Frist. "If Frist had not announced exactly when he did, as the fire was about to burn out, I would still be majority leader of the Senate today." Lott implies that Frist stabbed him in the back.
