The Dangerous Lame Duck

Russ Feingold on the end of the 109th Congress... The Vietnam Trade Issue has been tabled permanently for this lame duck session of congress.   Pundits say it is a strike against Bush as he heads there later this week.   I am unfamilar with the specifics of this trade agreement but in terms of the general tone of how the Democrats are responding to Bush's agenda, this is a welcome turn of events.

We all should stay vigilante as to what the 109th Congress does in it's closing days.   With Democrats realising they will be dealing a more powerful hand in the near future, hopefully they will stay on top of any efforts to slip anything thru the cracks of this lame duck session.

Just because we won a major battle on Nov. 7th doesn't mean we have to quit being active in the process of restoration.   We need to be just as active now as we have been for the last two years.   The war against the corruption and criminality of the Bush Administration continues...
THE HUFFINGTON POST

The Dangerous Lame Duck

In January, we will be looking at a new Congress, and with Democratic majorities in the House and Senate, we will be looking at a new national policy agenda. I know that I am looking forward to moving the progressive agenda forward in the next Congress. But Democrats can't just kick back and take it easy for the next few weeks.

It would be a huge mistake to overlook the potential for damage in the lame duck session. A lame duck session doesn't sound like anything to worry about, but this lame duck may be a lot more dangerous than people think. We can expect Republicans to try to jam through as much of their agenda as they can while they have the chance.

List of Issues ::
• bill to legalize the President's warrantless wiretapping program
• a number of unfunded tax cuts
• questionable trade measures

Anti War Politics - The 21st Century Peace Movement

30,000 weblogs. One Day. One Voice.
When the list reaches 30,000, a date and a word will be listed on the page. On that date, every weblog on the list agrees to make a single post with the word as the title. The content of the post should be about what you want for the world, whatever that may be. The purpose is not to make a particular political statement, but simply to make a noise. If 30,000 weblogs all post the same unusual word, it WILL be heard.
