Rumsfeld :: War Crimes

German Court To File Charges...rummy The removal of Rumsfeld has left him and the NeoCons vulnerable to charges of War Crimes.   This is not a new issue because the same people who brought charges against him and his cabal in 2004 are the same ones doing it this time also.   The German International War Crimes laws were the basis then and now.

The Germans decided that we should investigate and file charges where applicable so they dropped their charges in February of 2005.   As things have happened, we did nothing to uphold the rule of law and reigning in of loose cannons in our own government.

When Rumsfeld was removed from office, it let the flood gates open for the Germans and all of us who require that rule of law be upheld.   Therefore on the eve of his cloak of immunity being lifted, the Germans notified the world of their intentions to act.

It will actually have little meaning for Bush and his NeoCons because it has been proven over and over again that they have no respect for anything but power.   It will be interesting to see how this plays out...

Oh...   BTW...   Rummy...   Don't plan any trips to Europe, bud...  - fc

CCR TO FILE WAR CRIMES COMPLAINT AGAINST DONALD RUMSFELD

On November 14, 2006, CCR will file a criminal complaint against former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld in German Court. The complaint requests the German Federal Prosecutor open an investigation and, ultimately, a criminal prosecution that will look into the responsibility of high-ranking U.S. officials for authorizing war crimes in the context of the so-called "War on Terror." Former White House Counsel (and current Attorney General) Alberto Gonzalez, former Director of Central Intelligence George Tenet, and other high-ranking U.S. officials are also charged in the complaint. The complaint is brought on behalf of 12 torture victims – 11 Iraqi citizens who were held at Abu Ghraib prison and one Guantánamo detainee – and is being filed by the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR), the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), the Republican Attorneys' Association (RAV) and others, all represented by Berlin Attorney Wolfgang Kaleck. The complaint is related to a 2004 complaint that was dismissed, but the new complaint is filed with substantial new evidence, new defendants and plaintiffs, a new German Federal Prosecutor and, most important, under new circumstances that include the resignation of Donald Rumsfeld as Secretary of Defense and the passage of the Military Commissions Act of 2006 in the U.S. granting officials retroactive immunity from prosecution for war crimes. For full background on the complaint, please see the attached briefing paper.

Anti War Politics - The 21st Century Peace Movement

30,000 weblogs. One Day. One Voice.
When the list reaches 30,000, a date and a word will be listed on the page. On that date, every weblog on the list agrees to make a single post with the word as the title. The content of the post should be about what you want for the world, whatever that may be. The purpose is not to make a particular political statement, but simply to make a noise. If 30,000 weblogs all post the same unusual word, it WILL be heard.
